Distinguishing features

Stems covered with yellow prickles, sap yellow milky. Leaves alternate, green to bluish–green, margins toothed/lobed and prickly. Flowers solitary with 5 yellow petals 3-7 cm diameter. Fruit a prickly capsule – common along watercourses.
