Intercampus and Limited Access Materials Service
The Library offers an Intercampus and Limited Materials Access Service which allows clients to access the full range of books, journals and specialised material housed in each campus library. The service includes a daily transfer of books between Townsville and Cairns campuses, scanning of journal articles not held at the requestor campus, requests for items from Townsville Store for both Townsville and Cairns clients and requests for limited access materials not held at the requestor campus (e.g. items from Special Collections).
Requesting a Book
Clients from one campus can request a book from another campus by using the 'Request Item' function in Tropicat, the online library catalogue. Instructions are available on how to use this function. Cairns and Townsville clients can also request books from Townsville Store by using the above request item function. There is no charge to borrowers for this service.
Journal Article Requests
Complete the Document Copy Request Form for articles for Journals not held at the requestor campus or Journals held in Townsville Store for both Cairns and Townsville clients. Articles will only be sent to JCU email addresses.
Copyright
The Copyright Act must be observed when requesting photocopies or microforms. The Act permits copying of a "reasonable portion" of a book or journal for the purposes of research or study. A "reasonable portion" is defined for books as 10% or one chapter and for journals as one article per issue. More than one article is allowable only if the articles relate to the same subject matter. Requests for photocopies must be signed by the user of the material. Electronic requests require agreement with the Copyright Declaration upon submission. Non-borrowable Collection Requests
These include intercampus requests for microform, materials housed in Special Collections eg NQ Collection, rare books, ephemera, theses not held at the requestor campus and also for journals located in Townsville Store for both Cairns and Townsville clients. Non-borrowable Collection Requests are made by completing the Document Copy Request Form. These items may only be used in the Library. Requests for certain very rare or fragile items may be refused. Material from the Archives Collection is not available through the intercampus and limited access materials service
