Search Instructions for Reserve Online for Students

Instructions

  • Students search Reserve Online for digitised readings and past exam papers.

  • Streaming media items are accessible through LearnJCU only.

  • Keyword: you can enter either your subject code, author or keywords (from titles) in the search box. This will return all matching items.

Examples

  • The search WS1005 will return all items available for the Subject code WS1005.

  • The search Walker will return all items available for the Author Walker.

  • The search practitioner beware will return all items available for the keywords practitioner and beware.

Limiting Searches:

  • Subject search: Select Subject from the Search type drop down box; type your JCU subject/course code (eg. NS1220) into the search box and leave the Item type field blank. This will return all items for that subject code.

  • Author search: Select Author from the Search type drop down box; type the author's surname in the search box and leave the Item type field blank. This will return any items written by that author indexed in Reserve Online.

Tip: you can enter more than one author in the search box (e.g. the search Williams Smith will return all items by the co-authors Williams and Smith)

  • Title search: Select Title from the Search type drop down box; type in words from the title of the chapter or article you are looking for and leave the Item type field blank. This will return a list of titles including those keywords indexed in Reserve Online.

  • text: please ignore this option

  • Item Type: Select Readings (pdf files), Readings (URL's), Past Exams or Supplementary/Deferred Exams from the pull down menu in conjunction with any of the above to limit your results to one of these subsets.

Advanced Search

You can enter either your subject code, author or keywords (from titles) into each search box. This will return all matching items for that combination.

Example: The search Casey (author) AND WS1005 (subject) will return any items for which Casey is the author for the Subject code WS1005.

information (including metadata about the item)

Results

  • Select 5,10,15 or 25 items to be displayed per page

  • Summary: Provides a title listing of results

  • Detailed: Provides a title listing but also includes author details of results
