Jasper manages the office and its functions, pitching in to help its staff and client researchers as required. He assists the DVC(R&I) with policy and strategy, and has particular responsibility for the commercial and legal aspects of major research ventures.

Jim assists researchers across JCU with the legal aspects of research funding agreements. He drafts or reviews legal agreements whether they relate to more collaborative research ventures or straight research consultancies.

He enjoys helping researchers navigate the legal issues contained in those agreements such as Intellectual Property, Moral Rights and Indemnities. By helping to negotiate the more formal aspects of these funding arrangements, Jim facilitates a smoother and clearer context for researchers to do what they would prefer to do - Research.

Tina manages the ethics and research grants teams in the Research Office. She provides mentoring, guidance and strategic advice to the James Cook University community on research ethics and integrity policy and research grant information.

Animal Ethics Officer

As the Animal Ethics Officer, Noema is responsible for administration of animal ethics applications. She also administers ethics applications for research and teaching involving human participation. She provides support to the Senior Ethics Officer and assists in the effective operation of the Ethics Review Committee and its committees.

Human Ethics and Grants Administrator

Sophie is responsible for the administration of human research ethics applications relating to all research and teaching involving human participants. She is the administrative support for the University’s Human Research Ethics Committee, and also works co-operatively with the Animal Ethics Officer. Sophie is part of the grants team and provides pre- and post-award administration of research grants, with a particular responsibility for administering Internal Grants. In collaboration with other members of the grants team Sophie assists researchers with applications to external granting schemes.

Rose has particular responsibility in administering National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) grants, and is also the default point of contact for enquiries about external granting schemes and other research administrative matters from researchers in three Faculties (Medicine, Health and Molecular Sciences; Arts, Education and Social Sciences; and Law, Business and the Creative Arts). Rose supports the administration of research grants for these Faculties by improving the quality of external applications and sharing knowledge about grant administration, application and post-award processes throughout the University community.

Annette is responsible for coordinating all ARC funding rounds, and administering successful ARC grants. She is the first point of contact for the Faculty of Science & Engineering. Annette is responsible for checking all applications, providing feedback, submission to funding bodies in a timely manner, and when successful providing documentation to Financial & Business Services for account opening.

Floris is responsible for the strategic development of JCU’s Research Information Management System (RIMS) supporting research management and public accountability. He manages the maintenance and plans the ongoing development of the system, its peripheral systems and web interfaces. He is responsible for research performance analysis, benchmarking and reporting, as well as strategic analysis of accountability requirements and information needs, for example, for national research quality assessments.

Fiona is the point of contact for assistance regarding Research Services for the Cairns campus. This includes advice on commercial consultancy or contract research work and grant applications. Enquiries regarding tender submissions should also be directed to Fiona. She also helps to identify research opportunities and promotes JCU’s research expertise to the wider community. All enquiries regarding the State Government’s Smart Futures Funding should be directed through Fiona, except PhD scholarships which are handled by the GRS. Fiona is also the web manager for the Research and the Research Services sites.

David works with JCU researchers and the UniQuest team to raise awareness of intellectual property and commercialisation amongst JCU research staff as part of his activities in identification, protection and management of JCU's intellectual capital. These activities will facilitate the commercialisation of JCU's intellectual capital providing increased diversity of funding opportunities for new areas of strategic research; and enhance the capability of JCU to develop new collaborative relationships with industry and the private sector.
